Lothar's prostetics being possessed by a demon was not their fault, either, and they took him out fairly quickly. They tried to stop Morth's transformation, but did not succeed. All in all, yes, they were present at those events, but no, they were not directly at fault. (Further point at Morth's: They avoided the first chance for ascension.
