Epilogue 1 – Black, White, & Red All Over
May 29th, 2016 |
I went back and forth over whether to produce this script. It was originally written as a cliff-hangery epilogue for “Tangled Web”, before deciding to pack it in. There was never any story written for a Morth/Vitani alliance, we just thought that would be fun. Now, with no resolution forthcoming it may seem a bit of a tease, but I liked the implication that Eastwood and crew’s adventures and perils go on. Plus, we get to see Silas one last time.
So, I have a semi-complete script for an epilogue comic involving the actual protagonists. I’d like to hope it won’t be as long a gap, but um, no promises.
Hah! Sometimes, the best plan is to just go ham on the enemies and hope for the best!
That’s how I beat Seath after running out of ALL of my sorcerer spells, and running out of estus, and having no option left other than the Lightning Spear I had as my melee weapon. ;D
Also, I’m quite glad to see this part of the epilogue, and will gladly wait patiently for the rest of the epilogue. The art is a good as ever, the writing is still spot on, and it’s fun!
I’d say I’m sad to see the last of Exterminatus Now coming, but I’m still glad that it’s gone/going out on good terms/by choice, instead of just ending suddenly. ;)
I knew it would pay off to not delete this bookmark just yet!
Excellent comic as always, thank you!
Somehow I see any plan they have, even together, backfiring. Eastwood and Co just have a ridiculous amount of dumb luck.
“What is dead may never die” it seems. Or maybe “That is not dead which can eternal lie” might be a better quote for this.
Nice page, fun dialogue as usual !
Awesome comics overall. It’s nice to see that there will be a proper epilogue. Can’t wait for the next page !
And that’s the downside of being the immortal minion of a Chaos God. An eternity of never getting another boss.
Nice.
Yay! It’s alive.
Yeeeeeeeeeeeeeees
Weeee/~~~~~~
You guys should publish a compilation once the epilogue is done. I’d pay to have all EN comics in a bundle, especially as an e-book (I’m just weird that way). One of the best comics I followed ever, shame it had to end, but then again what doesn’t?
I’d buy the hell out of that.
Same! I seem to recall Virus saying that he never made a dime off this webcomic. I’d like that not to be true anymore before it wraps up.
Hmm. There’s issues with some of the early stuff due to copyright, and I still want to get a copy of The Bookend of Unimaginable Power. Durn living being so expensive.
Duuuude, that bookend would be siiick. he should get it kickstarted!
Aaaand we’re back!
I wasn’t really expecting these three to gather together again. Silas and Kevin? Sure. Kevin and Vitani? I actually thought that one specifically might happen. But all three? The Patternari surprised me, appropriately enough.
Hoyday! An update!
A villain team-up? I get the feeling that things are about to get worse for the team.
IT’S ALIIIIIVE
I mean, you know you cooooould just uncancel the comic, right? *winkwinknudgenudge*
ALL HAIL THE CREATORS!
Great to see an epilogue — thank you for posting! One question, though — is Vitani talking about allegiance or alliance? Silas is already in hock to the Patterner, and I doubt his ego would allow him to swear fealty to anyone of lesser status than a god… :)
noun
1.
the loyalty of a citizen to his or her government or of a subject to his or her sovereign.
2.
loyalty or devotion to some person, group, cause, or the like.
Could fall under “devotion to a common cause”? It’s probably the wrong word though. Sounded right…
The usage is very similar to “loyalty”, and in similar fashion “a loyalty” is a little unusual as phrases go. Still, Vitani is a pretty unusual gal/horrificabominationfrombeyondspace and probably doesn’t care about pathetic mortal phraseology. ;)
Seriously, it’s your comic and a bloody good one, so one little nitpick is neither here nor there. I am genuinely grateful for all the effort that’s gone into EN. And I really like the image of the Patterner in that final panel — a nicely ominous place to end, if end here we do.
Hey look, Silas got his second eye back… kinda.
Yay, my horrible habit of checking once a week on Fridays paid off after over a year!
I love this world settin so much. While I do hope for the next pages to not take as long, I’d rather you take the time and make it amazingly EN.
Can’t believe it’s already been over a year since this was published.
Huzzah my faith and keeping this on my bookmark paid off! WOOHOOO!!
y…yes…YES DAMMIT! there back in business. can’t wait to see this.
Temporarily back in business, and mainly for an epilogue to close out the series.
Still, I’m gonna enjoy this too. ;)
shhhhh lets not say temp words xp
:D
YEAH!!! It’s BAAAAACK!!!!
YES!! I love these two, its a shame we wont be seeing more of Vitani, she’s a great villain, playful, sassy, funny, she makes being a villain so much fun :P
Hope it aint another year for part 2 guys, but thank you for this epilogue.
Saaaay!
Is IS kinda cute when she wants to be……
(hiding now…)
She is,,,,She is
SWEAR that’s what was typed!
Would going down the Patreon support path possibly convince you guys to make more? This is a brilliant series and you deserve recognition for how awesome it is!
It pains me that I got sick of doing EN just when accessible revenue streams like Patreon came into being… If Patreon had happened a couple of years sooner, things might have turned out different.
Still, EN was never the most marketable thing. I’m grateful for all the fans, but a lot of people take one look, see furries, Sonic fan characters, whatever, and immediately turn off.
I’m not a furry or a Sonic fan and I love this strip, damn it!
I don’t wanna see it goooooooo! *cries*
It’s a shame you got tired of it. Niche markets can be profitable, if you have the right business model. Even if some people turn off at the first glance, you still created something wonderful that developed a loyal following. You’ve still got people commending on a comic that was “dead” for months. A great setting, great characters, and the humor made it much more than the sum of its parts.
I still hope that you’ll find new inspiration or passion for it at some point, but if not? Thank you, and good luck in your future endeavors.
one more page and a bunch a people will be happy.
Take as much time as you need to in closing out the series on its own terms. I’ve been reading this comic since 2003 so I know updates can get delayed. Hopefully someone will archive the comic so that people can go back and revisit later on.
This comic has actually a very interesting setting, and a nicely thought out universe. Maybe you could pass the torch to someone…
I’m glad to know you’re still alive, even if the comic is not.
Awww, and I hoped the comic will continue after all, when I saw it was updated :(
I went back to the first strip, and found the best joke in EN. That the comic would update twice a week, hehe.
Beautifully done, love it.
Holy shiz its an update. I love to see you guys still working your magic!
Update May 29th.
It’s now July 20th with no new update.
Yup! Right on schedule!
(snark? ME??)
considering this comic ended last strip, I’d say them posting any is a pretty good abuse of the schedule, no :P
Even the snarky comments have ended.
Sigh!
ungh, my instincts are usually never wrong when it comes to dead comic updates.
Sweet! new avatar. Finally, it only took three moves.
cool!
shuma gorath? that you?
Nov. 10 on my end, SVGeezer.
Quick get the necronomicon in here, the corpse has gotten cold.
I mean, I know he said “no promises,” but come on. If you’re gonna finish it, just finish it. I just keep checking back out of a long time respect for this comic’s art and story writing.
What! No Christmas Pressie of a new strip or two?? (And some have waited soooo long!) (sob!)
Hey, the site’s back online! Jolly good. :)
I’ve been wondering of why the hell you guys haven’t resurrected this comic. So I did some investigating of my own and came by this website called – http://badwebcomicswiki.shoutwiki.com/wiki/Exterminatus_Now – so I can assume of why you stopped.
Look, who gives a flying fuck of what other people think of you guys!!! I think you’re great! The problem is, is that you’re letting other people influence you! Who cares!? Obviously the creators of this comic, but thats not the point.
The people that talk shit really shouldn’t matter. At least you’re being noticed, rather than not being noticed at all.
So in the future, I sure hope you guys continue on and say “fuck what you guys think, we’re gonna do what we want!”. I know that the criticism hurts from those jerks… but you guys have a wonderful thing going on here. I hope deep down you guys will find your source of “self-respect” once more, and continue onward with the comic.
Sincerely, a supporting fan with, well moral support.
P.S. – don’t give up, you still have loyal fans/followers in support of you. Its up to you of whether this place lives or dies…
as nice as it would be for the comic to come back, I hate to tell you that the team have said several times that’s not the reason why they stopped. they – particulalrly virus, who did the arting – stopped, simply, because they didn’t want to continue the comic anymore, so chose to wrap it up with an actual ending
to quote from page 504
“When the current story wraps up, there might be two or three housekeeping strips to close things up, but then it’s “indefinite hiatus”. It’s become too much of a chore, and I want to have the time to do other things and work on other projects. I think twelve years is a pretty good run, and I thank all of you for your support. People have been very cool and understanding about the decision, which I appreciate!”
Heh, I appreciate the pep talk Ivanjoe, but we’re like, in our thirties, dude, not fragile-egoed teens. A bad review on the internet is far from devastating. Here’s a section on the same site where they post our responses: http://badwebcomicswiki.shoutwiki.com/wiki/Not_crazy_reactions#Exterminatus_Now
Rest assured we were not crying ourselves to sleep over this one ;)
Yay its back up, I know its over but I was sad for the site to be gone. I love this comic very much.
Why must it end!!! There is so much unfinished business!
Shame, now I have to find something to fill the gap in my comic lineup.
Could be worse… could be a longer wait than various Homestuck hiatus’
damn, paid off checking back after a couple years. Just caught up about 40 pages, very nice.
Would like to see more, eventually… here’s hoping.
huh… this was a ride.. I found this comic some time ago. but didn’t have time to read it. now i managed to finish it… and while it left me with the feelong of wanting more… it also left me with good feeling of finished story… Sure… there will be more adventures, but it is happy end. I especially loved this universe. the way it eas designed and written. It left me with many questions that I will bever have answered… but somehow I am ok with it. so… Thank You for such a great story…
PS. we could really use an epilogue part 2 with actual cast but i guess after all this time….
Aaaah a shame really, a mix of Sonic and 40k was the absolute most hilarious best thing ever.
I loved this soo much, i still check on it weekly hoping for some closure, but i don’t think its ever gonna be.
Still it stays one of my favorite Webcomics.
See ya around guys…
Well…if you crave crazy 40k mashups, webnovel.com has a tale called “40 Millenium of Cultivation” that combines xianxia and 40k.
Well I just finished EN in the span of more or less a week, it was really fun to read during my night shifts. I love the universe your guys built, the characters, the jokes, the language, and the art style is just fantastic. Shame it’s over, but all good things and such.
Thanks for the ride!
I used to follow this comic religiously about ten years ago, and somehow fell out of it, then came back two days ago. After binging the comics until now, I’m happy to see that it continued as long as it did. It’s a shame that, 3 weeks short of two years since this last panel was published, I find the comic to have ended. I loved this comic, and hope the best to all of you.
I have just joined you in the boat of “followed religiously in the past, fell off, and then recently binged it to the current page”.
Funny that we both recently returned after being away for several years.
I guess they truely left the show.:( dam that makes me sad.
Finally decided to read the last couple of pages after buying the package at the penultimate page. Sad to see that they left it here, but I’m glad they got as far as they did.
Thanks for the entertainment, it’s a fun story.
I hope you have the time and inclination to pick it back up someday.
I just spent the last 6 hours binging this comic from start to finish. I am very sad it is over… however some day I hope they kick it off again.
I want to hear more about Soulthirster and her/his/their gang of misfits.
I discovered this comic way back, must have been within the first 20 releases. I just wanted to say good job. Not many series come to a fine conclusion and actually manage to tell their stories much less get to grow with its audience in a non-jarring way. If I could ask for anything, it would be a digital image set of the whole series to keep for the sake of history, but that’s just me being lazy about doing it manually.
Been contemplating creating a fan art extension of the story to give some final closure to the seriesnot for profit, but to add some finality to it all. This was an incredible series, got me through some rough spots and personally I feel like it needs to have a final end. What say you guys?
I might be interested in doing some fan continuation comics, but I would say its probably best if we leave major elements of the EN crews’ stories up to the lads themselves. Feels more appropriate that way. I’d be more interested in doing some comics taking the piss out of C team (Nadia Deket et all) as they have as much as or more comedic dysfunction potential as the A team, I mean I haven’t drawn anything in years, but this is as good an excuse as any to get back in the game.
Well this Web-comic is Dead as Malal returning to the canon of Warhammer 40k
While we’re here in purgatory, lets discuss funny canon consequences the team probably forgot about. Apart from the fourth wall breaking gags littered throughout the comic, the consistency has been remarkable (as well as the fact you just have to accept they have the same media shit we do, Mass Effect, Halo, etc) but this comic implies Virus has a girlfriend of at least several years http://exterminatusnow.co.uk/2008-09-20/comic/non-storyline/randoms/eastwoods-last-girlfriend/
Meaning a few things, not only has he not gotten any throughout his relationship, (reasons can only be speculated, maybe she’s religious and waiting till Marriage, would make sense for the story’s setting), but his first time was with a fucking spider demon lady who wanted to eat him and consume his soul. That’ll put a strain on a relationship.
(This is strictly speaking about Virus the character, not casting any shade on the man himself, I dont know his business nor am I commenting on it, just to clarify, this is only talking about comic shit)
I started reading this comic back in High school, then largely forgot about it after graduating. Only started reading it again a week ago pretty much where I left off on it before….and I’ve already reached its end. Honestly that makes me sad.
I know that artists and story-writers get bored or not so much bored that but simply want to do other things, but it felt like The (Fun) Ride That Never Ends- and then it does and I’m happy that I took the ride, but sad that it actually DID end. Where it stopped I guess makes sense since immortals have so much more Time to…I don’t know, Exist more than mortals do, but I still wanted moar.
I guess I should be content that it really does have an end where so many other comics that I enjoyed reading over the years don’t, and frankly, with how dark this storyline could be at times I should be glad it didn’t end with them being literally ripped apart (though if done right could have been friggin hilarious, too).
TL;DR
Thanks for making these over the years, I’ll miss them, and though I’m disappointed there isn’t moar, I wish you well in whatever works you pursue in the future.
I miss Exterminatus Now sooo much!
I don’t know if anyone visits this site anymore but this was one of my favourite webcomics and I just thought I’d come back and say hi in a new decade.
Hello.
Hello Westlac!
I visit from time to time in the hope that one day there will be an epilogue… You never know 2020 might be the year!
HA. Nope. Maybe 2021. Hope you boys r doin well
nope again, not 2021, not 2023, probily wont finish
Yes, 2020 is in fact the year of the Virus.
Hey! The site’s back up! It was down for oh-so-long. I’m glad I can go re-read this again.
Maybe…..maybe the authors will come back, too? Please?
Just started playing a Dark Heresy RPG, and so far our team of acolytes are following wonderfully in these heroes’ footsteps – being wonderfully incompetent yet somehow surviving on pure luck (literally, last session – only avoided a party wipe due to an actual one in a hundred shot).
Needless to say I’ve introduced the other players to the joy that is EN, and had a wonderful couple of days re-reading the archive :D
The comic is still missed – not a complaint, I understand entirely needing to do something different after so long – but figured y’all would appreciate the reminder what you did here isn’t forgotten :P
Heh. Just reread the whole comic. I was reading when it was still running and it still holds up. Love this so much.
Just wanted to say thanks for continuing to host it. It’s a wonderful read and I periodically come back to peruse.
Thank you for producing magnificence as life would allow.
I wish you all the best of luck in your future work.
Bi-monthly check this site for the update. Exterminatus Now was my favorite webcomic!
Still here, and looking back at it to rise up my mood.
Untill the web goes dark, gonna be here.
See you again.
The year’s not over yet… still time for the epilogue…
Oh boy… Just finished a reread of this lovely comic. Even if we never get another update I lke the note we end on.
You know what, I’m with Kevin… I totally jokingly ship these ex-mortal demons.
By the end of the 15th century, 35
Anyone else re-reading this again in 2021? Kinda hope they throw together an ebook… I have no idea why they’re still paying to host the site at this point.
A lot of memories in this, glad it’s still up and I can share ‘em
.
I just finished a reread myself.
When will you draw the sequel? This is my childhood comic book, please don’t finish it.
Since the era of Charlemagne
Well it’s 2021 almost to 2022 so I’m guessing the aid this is going to take a little bit longer then expected. But you know I want to see an epilog where a certain someone who banged a spider chick his chick ends up having to take responsibility for his responsibility for his son or daughter from said spider chick.
Hey, we can continue the storyline in the comments section! What do you think happens next?
awsome shit
So the comic’s dead right
What’s up with the creators? Anybody knows anything about them? Are they working on something else?
mabey the dead
i wish they did more with this comic
why the fuck is it when i get into a webcomic is it slow to finished or slow to update
if you mean finished, forever unfinished or slow to update, i agree
exsept XKDC
fuck my spelling
consists of the book itself
Still waiting for the continue!
I genuinely miss you guys. Years ago, I read this with no context, loved it for it’s humor. Now I work in a game store where I meet Warhammer 40K players all the time and get snippets of the lore here and there. I would genuinely contribute to a patreon to keep you writing this magic.
Still coming back and checking. Still praying for the day you guys rear your heads once more and give us more of this… Some of the few good memories I had from those years came from reading this shit. A good laugh was valuable.
2024 and still kicking! Excellent read!
