I literally grinned the moment I saw the look of the far-left-head of the hound. His look just screams “You’re fucked, and I’m going to thoroughly enjoy myself while it lasts” to me. Quality bit of art right there.
Well that was just as I expected….. ALMOST Loth didn’t free it but Morth is sure as hell gunna have to fight it. :) Now lets hope that they don’t make a treaty and stay against eachother. Plus for a note Morth is a Patterner’s Chosen and has the favor of the Blood God. What might happen????
Mm, I think when I wrote it, the door was supposed to be way too small for the cerberus, but it seems I kinda blew the scale somewhere along the way. I stuck a circle on the door to represent the prison seals Morth mentioned earlier though.
I didn’t really notice, Morth is physically smaller and much, much more slender than the cerberus, so it doesn’t seem strange to me that Morth can get in but the cerberus can’t get out.
barred wooden door seems to have some sort of rune decoration around it, if you look closely.
As for Morth…
Patterner-deceit, lies means he probably is best with fighting with his smarts, puzzles and illusions.
War-You are the badddest dude around. If someone’s got a problem with you, remind them that you are empowered by WAR!
To miss-quote a certain popular movie…
“Spider *points at Morth*, Boot *points at cerberus*.”
Plus said door has some kinda magic circle emblem on it, so it’s definatly got a spell on it.
The Steel dome wasn’t meant for being opened again I think. Kinda like what happened in the now-obscure story ‘The Cask of Amontillado’ (Sorry if I misspelled it.) The ‘dome’ was kinda the last wall put in, after it’s occupant entered. Different in that the ‘tomb’ still has an exit/entrance, albeit one capable of acting as a ‘fourth wall’.
And come to think of it, the ‘Hound’ issue I think Morth intended to solve with the demon issue explained here: http://exterminatusnow.co.uk/2005-08-02/comic/facilitating-your-demise/too-long-didnt-listen/
Perhaps the door falls into one of two categories:
1. Some random cultist thought it would be possible to cut a deal with Kevin if Morth trapped him in exchange for releasing him.
2. Morth wanted to be able to get out if a random cultist decided to trap him after he became a daemon.
Heh, Eastwood is on a roll this arc. “There’s no way Morth is the most powerful demon we’ve met TODAY”. Nice wordplay.
Also, Morth seems surprisingly casual about how screwed he is… and has a funny way of saying he’s shitting himself. Too bad he doesn’t have a ball or a magic barrier to protect himself… AND is stuck in a small dark room with only a rabid three headed monster dog for company. Man this so awesome.
love east his facial expression when he closes the door. also guess when you ascend to something big youl end up overconfident til someone or a random 3 headed dog takes you down a few notes.
ps:on a scale of 1 to 10 how screwed is morth? of course including the fact the cerebus is quite angry for what morth did to him.
Anywho, I’m glad the hound wasn’t released, because sealing Morth’s in with him in the dark adds a sense of horror, this isn’t a fight, this is murder, bloody, gory, badger mauling murder. Btw, to the wonderful creators, do you see the fans being able to geuss the plots as annoying or as proof that we aren’t a mass of crying
chicks begging for worms?
If enough people toss out enough guesses, chances are some of them will be right some of the time. People who claim to be psychics do the same thing. Basic probability says they’ll be right sometimes, so those ‘hits’ are emphasised, while the numerous misses are forgotten.
But this was a fairly predictable outcome anyway, all the elements were set up ahead of time, and East’s “not necessarily” line last week telegraphed it pretty clearly. It’s all good.
The next strip would be perfect if it’s just the Patterner and the Hound gods watching their ephemeral TV, while the Hound has the most smug, shit eating grin on his face, whilst we hear all the squeaky noises (a la crushing ribcages from DBZ Abridged) Mort’s about to make.
PWN’D!!!!!!! LOL XD Just as soon as the magnificent bastards starts using brute forces, his comuppence is both eventual AND humiliating. JUST LIKE AIZEN!!! XD
My first thought on reading Morth’s comment about ‘…and about the waste functions of my new anatomy.’ was the comment ‘You mean the waste functions of Cerberus’s anatomy! On the basis that you’ll be passing through them in the not to distant future.’
There is a bit of a plot hole there though. It is hard to believe Mort wouldn’t notice door slamming behind him (even if he didn’t hear it, he would notice the effect on the ambient light).
I think it fits…. this isn’t the cold calculating and cleaver Morth we’ve come to know… this is the drunk on power Morth who is trying to milk the “I’m gonna crush you feeble mortals” bit for all it’s worth.
In that state of mind… its very very easy to make mistakes/fall for traps.
forgot to say this in my last comment…: let me amend my last sentence:
In that state of mind… its very very easy to make mistakes/fall for traps and not notice/ignore changes to seemingly small details (like ambient light and door slams).
What, “The Evil Overlord List, now with ilutrated examples?” I’d read that. And if you don’t know what The Evil Overlord List is…look it up. It’ll really help with your book, and is hilarious in general.
#34: I will not turn into a snake. It never helps.
Yeah. I know about it. But my list has around 500 tips, and multiple chapters. I’ll put up a pink in a post eventually. But this comic is the best- I am surprised that the writers are not selling books of this stuff.
So, I’m guessing dying HERE puts you right back on the ethereal plan, right? So Morph is just, eh, indesposed.
I expect the eye is crunchy. Good for bowel movements.
I cannot stop laughing after seeing the last panel. It reminds me of something from Tom & Jerry….
If Morth got god-demon powers from the dog-demon, what happens if one devours the other? >=)
Woooooooowww…..
That is a pretty grievous oversight…. I liked Morth too. *sighs and grabs a mop*
I literally grinned the moment I saw the look of the far-left-head of the hound. His look just screams “You’re fucked, and I’m going to thoroughly enjoy myself while it lasts” to me. Quality bit of art right there.
So, a badger goes into a hole, and there are three hounds there.
…..
This is no joke. Badger-boy is FUCKED. Horribly.
NEXT COMIC NEXT COMIC!!!
The second-to-last panel with Morth’s face in the darkness is some pretty badass lighting, dudes. This storyline has me in stitches, keep it up!
Ha I was right.
One of my two guesses involved the Dog fighting Mort.
Great storyline.
well not so much as fight as ‘consume with fury and abandon’
Well that was just as I expected….. ALMOST Loth didn’t free it but Morth is sure as hell gunna have to fight it. :) Now lets hope that they don’t make a treaty and stay against eachother. Plus for a note Morth is a Patterner’s Chosen and has the favor of the Blood God. What might happen????
Looks like gaining demonhood meant Morth lost a few IQ points. Great way to defeat his new form.
Nice job on Morth’s “spiderwalk”, looks great and very appropriate : )
…. He will need many, many, many tennis balls to get out of this one !
I’ll get the mop.
So…the impenetrable ward-sealed steel dome had a barred wooden door for its back exit? I think I’m missing something here.
Mm, I think when I wrote it, the door was supposed to be way too small for the cerberus, but it seems I kinda blew the scale somewhere along the way. I stuck a circle on the door to represent the prison seals Morth mentioned earlier though.
it’s okay, just say it was made by the same people who built a giant wall to keep King Kong out, then built a gate for him to get in.
I didn’t really notice, Morth is physically smaller and much, much more slender than the cerberus, so it doesn’t seem strange to me that Morth can get in but the cerberus can’t get out.
And now Harry lived happily ever after, the end

actually go back a few strips and you learn that a some of his crew got hurt trying to grab something from those hounds.
so either they use ropes and climbed their way down and up the trap or they used a door.
And this is same said door that the others used earlier.
and do you remember Morth saying something about an containment procedure that was devised entirely for Kevin?
I get the feeling this will just make things worse.
The question though is for whom

The square root of infinite divided by pi.

That about sums it up really for Morth right now!
X 1000

Called it, but then I think a lot of people did.
Still good though Easts expression when shutting the door is priceless
Yay, Cerberus, Orthrus, and Fluffy now have a new chewtoy! Have fun, puppies.
Also: Silas, old buddy, you move so damned freaky. It’ll be such a delight to see you go squish.
Last panel: Next-to-last scene of Lion King, anyone? XD
Oh snap I totally see it….. Hyenas rock.
Man, if only they hadn’t changed the channel, then it would have been COMPLETELY accounted for.
Oh well, it’ll probably pop up many comics into the future, like the Monty Python gag.
It’s possible that The Patterner grabbed the remote and changed the channel back in time to see these events unfold.
It would give The Hound something to laugh at and lord over The Patterner.
I should have seen that coming.
I have always wondered about something about the Cerberus, do it have three brains or just one which it shares between the heads?
Wait…That mean they’re about to finish a mission without much losses…
…
…
Is the universe collapsing or something ?
Naaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaw. A FAR more clear sign of the universe ending would be the day when Eastwood throwing out a cup of good coffee.
They’re still responsible for summoning a Hound Greater Deamon, so I think it’s still pretty typical of their success-to-fuckup ratio
Love the lighting effect of that bionic eye in the penultimate panel.
Speaking of lighting effects… anyone know where and/or what is that bright light is coming from in the final panel?
nvm… upon looking closer I see its coming from one of Morth’s hands… so Im guessing is some kind of spell he’s casting.
Lumos!
lol
PWN’D!!!!!!! LOL XD Just as soon as the magnificent bastards starts using brute forces, his comuppence is both eventual AND humiliating. JUST LIKE AIZEN!!! XD
But unlike Aizen, Mort didn’t turn into a butterfly.
Although it’s debatable how much better turning into a spider is. They both go squish beneath a shoe after all…
Yes, but a spider will more likely be stepped on then, you know, being kept in jar or having its(non-existing) wings ripped of, like a butterfly.

I’ve been writing a book that should help villans like Morth get over these issues. I just doubth he will live long enough to see it printed.
What, “The Evil Overlord List, now with ilutrated examples?” I’d read that. And if you don’t know what The Evil Overlord List is…look it up. It’ll really help with your book, and is hilarious in general.

Let’s say consuming Morth makes Cerberus powerful enough to break through the door.
Get ready to run, Eastwood.

If Morth got god-demon powers from the dog-demon, what happens if one devours the other? >=)
My avatar is now a green eye! Is that better or worse than the sword-swinging ninja chick?
Better, because at least the demon wouldn’t be such a “Lord Error Prone” “Walking Disaster Area”.
Screw ninjas!
Mine has changed from the most badass mercenary around to the lightsaber wielding cat. I’m fairly okay with this.
NOT AS PLANNED
Not in any way at all, and here I thought we’d have our evil tvtropes dragon for the dark gods, geuss not.
Unless if by being killed, he gets instantly sent to their hellish realms or something.
Which would totally suck
Oh, yeah. Big ego=big bust. HEheheh. Go east!
And yes, Morth. Shoulda took Hubris lessons from the start.
“then release the hounds” Cerberus has some amazing quips when he is not chasing a tennis ball : D
