#421 – Australian Rules Chessmaster

If you’re just joining Exterminatus Now, you’ve found us mid shit/fan collision, so you may want to backtrack a little.
- - The current story, “The Bookend of Unimaginable Power”, starts here.
- - “Bookend” is a followup to the first Silas Morth story, “Shades of Black and White”, which starts here.
- - Or you could start from the beginning. They’re a little rough, we don’t hit our stride until a hundred or so in, approximately here.
You know, as much of a slimeball as Morth can be, he does have some VERY good points to make.
Eastwood should really stop thinking within warhammer categories, as these don’t really match what’s actually going on.
Too bad everyone was too busy watching porn to give his crappy vids some views.
Cry havoc, and let loose the Dog of War! Let’s see an Daemon free for all!
i strongly agree !!! let use go find the tennis ball
You know… it surprises me how brave harry is being. Then again I guess if this were anyone other then Morth this wouldn’t be the case.
what surprises me is how quickly Morth adapted to the new limbs and lack of depth perception.
Oh, this is really bad. I hope the Inquisition has something in place for dealing with those videos, or things will get ugly.
Let me explain: The inquisition’s ultimate power is the information and response time- they can get their agents to cult sites fast enough to actually interrupt daemon summonings, the first storyline is an example: The only reason the heros had a fight was because there were daemons at the ready beforehand.
Now, daemons I presume get out of hand quickly, via the whole ‘kill and gain more mana’ reaction described in one of the storylines, either the first time we meet Jamilia (sorry if I got her name wrong, the penguin chick.), or that storyline WildFire was around for. That’s when you bring in the Exterminatus thing.
However, what Morth has done, may very well have set in place something horrifying: Mass daemon summonings, if not Greater daemon summonings. I presume Greater daemons can’t be normally summoned due to energy costs, which is why the bookend of doom was important. Now, that’s bad, because if the daemons get an outbreak that lets them open a nice big rift, and the Exterminatus already has been used elsewhere (it works like a typical space death lazer I think, so therefore it can only hit one place at a time, if not have a massive cooldown procedure.) Then the Daemons win, the Demon Lords cheer, and the Gods mourn the loss.
Morth is leaving the cameras on, which means any ass kicking he gets is also on camera.
Which means that the people watching will know that the Inquisition WILL tear them to pieces if they try something. Oh, and that’s if they’re lucky. If they’re not lucky, they’ll get arrested, interrogated, probably tortured and then killed.
Plus, there’s probably a documentary on shoelaces that’s getting more hits right now.
Considering Morth’s naratological imperative and the incompetence of the current Inquisition kill-team on his hide, it’s unlikely they’re going to kick his ass hard enough that anyone watching won’t still find it absurdly cool.
Our intrepid “heroes” have been known to survive worse, and they’ve got a greater daemon of The Hound to unleash on Morth not far away.
Plus, there’s also a chance that people watching will be horrified that Morth turned into a monster or that they won’t believe what just happened is real.
and of course its obvious itl end with virus his tail being stuck. also wasnt the last time exterminatus was used in the arc where they introduced agent camel(pinguing girl)? im pretty sure enough time has passed for it to cool down, as for being horrified dude its voodootube im pretty sure poeple can expect stuff like that to happen on that site unless they got a crapload of cute little kittens vids on the same website.
It appears nobody has pupils in panel 4
reminds me of those whatever they were that transformed into girls seeing theyre original form also didnt have pupils(or entire eyes).
You mean the Seducer?

It was nice to read Virus’ description for this pic.
“- Or you could start from the beginning. They’re a little rough, we don’t hit our stride until a hundred or so in, approximately here.”
I had started reading this comic in the first arc (long long time ago…), and, in fact, it gives me a nice pleasure to see How much this comic have improoved since then.
You guys started as a noob comic, simple and amateur, but it’s nowadays looking just professional! Virus art style has grown a LOT, and the stories had became complex and nice, even if it still a humoristic comic!
Really needed to say, Congrats for that. =]
…aaand that’s 2 comments in a month. More than I have done in 9 years. Now, Back to the shadows.
SSSSOOOOOOOOO whats it take for morth to find out either the internet is out or the power is out stomping on his plans. Plus i doubt he was televising it live so He may still need to upload the video. OH TOASTER DAEMON WHERE ARE YOUUUUUUUUU?
*presses Exterminatus button*
I’m going to be honest here: I don’t think the day will be saved entirely this time. The main cast could very well survive, but the consequences of Morth’s newfound daemon powers and this Patternari publicity stunt will probably be too extensive to be completely undone. I kind of hope that this arc amounts to more than simply kicking Morth’s butt (or more likely, not letting Morth kick their butts) just for a more exciting story
Regardless of my petty concerns, however, the writers will do what they will do, and I have no problems with that.
Also, Curiosity landed on Mars today. ^_^
Didn’t the Mars Science Laboratory land on Mars yesterday?
ye i think it did
I’m surprised Eastwood hasn’t clicked on one thing.
Spider demon. Morth’s a spider demon. He’s gonna SQUASH HIM LIKE A BUG.
He just needs a bigger boot’s all
I was gonna mention that Morth looked like a giant spider now. Ah well.
Maybe his latent physical skills (i.e. fleeing) when it comes to spiders may come in handy again.
Huh, y’know, he could stream all he wants, but Morth forgot to take into account the most important fact of the internet: Attention span. It took him HOW long to get to this state? Even with the battles and the misplaced summoning, people would’ve moved on to other more entertaining aspects on the net. Let’s face it, a video of a kitten meowing alone will get WAAAY more hits than some high level dark arts summoning.
The thing about cat videos is that they aren’t going to hold your interest ALL of the time, or even MOST of the time. A sorcerer having his door busted down by the Inquisition and becoming immortal? That’s gonna grab attention. A potential patternari follower only needs to see the video enough to become interested, and as Morth pointed out, many people would go to desperate lengths to gain immortality.
It’s a pretty safe bet that the footage is also going to be placed on youtube as a regular recording, either by Morth’s cult or one of the many dark cultist wanna-bes and actually-ares out there watching it. It’ll be used in recruitment videos to explain the reward the greatest followers receive. Morth’s using this entirely to keep himself from fading into the Aether, but it’ll also give chaos a big leg-up against all that is holy and good.
…Or, ya know. Holy and better than the alternative =P This IS based on 40K… mixed with Sonic but still
why do i have the feeling that east is the only one still in the cave and the rest of the team haz ran ??
East may have become slightly braver. For the all knowing public’s view, he hasn’t pissed himself in fear yet.
“Hardly standard Patternari behavior.” It is, however, pretty standard for post-natal transpecies transformations.
I think that the Inquisition has probably cut the feed before it got too bad, so some new followers, but not enough to make him uber powered. Bad, but not horrifying situation.
Or the Hound gets free and we see an awesome battle that has tons of destruction, and the Inquisition finishes off the severely weakened loser.
Hmmm… unlikely. Narrative convention basically demands that something come of the internet video. If it’s being live-streamed it was probably cut right around now. If it’s been put on as a full rewatchable video then someone will have time to download it.
In-universe, it’s going to be up at LEAST until someone finds it online. And after that… well, Morth’s proven very good at plotting beyond what any characters (or even the readers) have thought of. Remember when the youtube videos seemed like a one-off joke? How about when it looked like a brick joke? I do.
…Unless he’s going for anticlimax, which doesn’t seem like it’d fit here. I mean sure, 8-bit theatre basically proved beyond a doubt you can have a good story with anticlimaxes everywhere, and the writing here’s good enough (imo) to pull it off, but (if i may be so bold) that doesn’t seem like Lothar’s style. Certainly not with Morth.
Rule of youtube in our universe- if you load it, they will watch.
end of story
does it not get boring writing that much ???
“That much”? Have you ever heard of books? They’re these things made of paper and they’re FILLED with text. Some boring dude has to write all that too, it’s crazy.
Being unable or unwilling to read a modest amount of text is not something to be proud of. HalfTangible is proving himself a thoughtful and intelligent addition to the comment box. So thanks, HT, it’s fun to read speculation, though you of course understand why we can neither confirm nor deny. Just FYI though, I’ve written the bulk of this story. It did not get boring.
Youtube/voodoo tube= chekhov’s gun
So Morth’s obsession with Voodootube wasn’t just a running joke, but it was a Chekhov’s Gun!
Very clever, Lothar.
Get to it, TVTropes.
Funny how I had to actually update that on the page…. I figured someone else would……………INTERNET RESPONSIBILITIES HURT MY MIND BRAIN!!!
You know, they could have solved this issue easily by having the video removed by bots
Or the cameras/youtube channel possessed by a minion of Fernex.
I already suggested that
Damn
*takes off sunglasses*
That’s Cool
!!!hhhaaaaaaaaaaAAAAAAAAAEEEEEEEEEEEEY
Godsdamnit, meant to reply to Mephistophelese.
Joke’s kinda ruined now.
Another victim of the lower Fernex Daemons it appears.
Hrm. Hadn’t occured to me that the Inquisition could just ‘pull the plug’ on Morth’s information…Wait.
Something I just thought of-Morth is a former Inquisitor. There’s actually even odds he knows about their information suppression network, and has planned for it. But then again, it also was a while ago, and somehow, Morth does not strike me as someone who would be very tech-savvy.
I give it 50/50-Either the EN heros find a way to come through, which isn’t too plausible for me, seeing as how Morth was 1 for 2 in kicking their rears BEFORE he transformed, or the Inquisition does some kinda cool ‘information tracky-send extraction team’ shtick and saves the day.
Someone mentioned Morth is kinda Spider Demonish now…Well, apparently, it doesn’t trigger East, that, or Morth is 3 seconds away from playing on that fear.
I just had a thought. Has anyone here played Command and conquer 3?
Well *SPOILER ALERT* during that game, Kane, the big bad, gets utterly NAILED by C&C’s version of the Exterminatus, the Low Orbit Ion Cannon. This also sets off a liquid tiberium explosion so pretty much anything that was at ground zero that was alive isn’t even a stain anymore.
Except Kane comes back a few missions later, slightly irritated but none the worse for fear. BOOM. Nod’s recruitment freaking explodes and the videos of the cutscenes are still up on youtube right now. Point is, if you unleash your most ultimate and most awesome weapon on someone, and they show that they live through it, they’re more awesome than your best weapon.
Might want to call Exterminatus our last resort here.
If a Greater daemon can cause a rift to appear due to manifesting infective belief, wouldn’t exterminatus be the end of the world then?
Space death beam + big rift = world explody, right? Or am I missing something?
1 B3T ON3 OF TH3 JOBS OF TH3 3XT3RM1N4TUS 1S TO PURG3 TH1NGS L1K3 TH4T.
Their bosses after seeing this on the internet might have something to ask them: One: How did they get that thing? Two: How did you KNOW they had it? Three: After knowing they had it why didn’t you call us for back up? Four: No matter what your answers to the above, what do you think the odds are that you’ll keep your jobs?
Wait…Morth pulled off a Xanatos Gambit? I didn’t think he even had HALF the brainpower for that.
Why would you think that? I mean he is(was?) part of the Patter Cult.
Yeah, but the guy had “Dr. Robotnik Syndrome” written all over him for the most part I’ve seen him in action. Has the knowledge, but no common sense.
Idea! Wildfire chekov gun! Probably wouldn’t end well for her though…
Or, she and everyone else will get away relatively unscathed, but the place will explode because… I dunno, because Wildfire.
Ph,Morth. Stalling grnd plans for personal enjoyment always ;eads to disaster. You should know that.
Otherwise, yes. You have proved to be quite the chessmaster in this.
