#428 – Weekdays At 4:00
Bit late, sorry, I just went back to work. Shouldn’t cause too many problems, just an adjustment period. I should get a Twitter or someshit.
Lothar’s adoptive father Steven Redgrave first appeared, in The Cesspool arc (story start). And his ‘mom’ has also previously appeared.
Convention news: EN is making its convention debut at Edmonton Expo, October 20th and 21st, booth 704. We will have shirts and buttons, and I can probably do a sketch if you want.
By “we” I mean “me”. Don’t expect to meet everybody, the other three guys live in England (I’ve been in Canada since 2010).
Edmonton Expo is new and pretty small, and came at quite short notice, but it should be a good test run for Calgary next April, when we’ll have more merch and, hopefully, more guys.
…….Sorry (I get the punchline) but I’m just not finding this comic very funny. I guess this isn’t my cup of tea.
Yeah, I kinda agree with you, Batboy. I mean, the wood chipper thing was KINDA funny, but this isn’t one of the EN team’s best works.
It was completly corny until the final panel. Then it was hilarious
It’s parodying the American sit-com ‘That’s So Raven’, with intentional dubbed laughter. It’s SUPPOSED to be corny, it’s satire.
Satire is Parody with a Point, this is just Parody, Not Satire. Get it Right!
That is not what “tween” means, and Tolkien is probably rolling in his grave.
Wait. What meaning are you referring to?
Yeah, you’re gonna have to explain that to me, since this is the only definition I’m aware of. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tween_%28demographic%29
I used Flash for a while, so I’ve got one other definition. I don’t believe Tolkien was into Flash animation though.
I get where AnonThe Mouse is coming from. “Tween is a word used or perhaps even coined by J.R.R. Tolkien to describe Hobbits in their reckless twenties. This is because Hobbits were not considered adults until age 33 and live significantly longer than Men.” source: http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/archive/index.php/t-483060.html.
The term is now in current usage (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Preadolescence#Preteen)for kids aged either 10-12 or as low as 8-12. ”
There is some debate on the Tolkien side though; most people on the cursory glance that I gave the pages say that it’s the “girl between 8 and 12″ definition.
I can’t look anymore as I need to get ready for work.
Interesting. Illustrating that Tolkien, like all the great authors, saw English as a living and malleable language, and was happy to invent and make use of neologisms. So I therefore doubt he’d be doing any rolling caused by a neo-neologism.
As a genre spoof, this is amazing.
WTF is wrong with you batboy and Vairar – this was awesome! But of breaking the 4th wall (of sorts) humor! It’s awesome!
Although I have to admit Lothar does always look pretty naked when he doesn’t have his bot bits – I mean both the other guys actually have clothes on.
Thanks, but Batboy and Vairar are allowed to not like it. Can’t please all the people all the time. Maybe we’ll get a laugh out them next week, it’s all good.
Very cool of you to say that, Virus. And you guys ARE good at getting laughs out of us. That D&D comic you did was HILARIOUS.
Not to mention the mom reference – that was sweet.
Worth being late for. haha You guys should do this kind of thing more often. Its a bit of a break from the same old jokes you’s make all the other times. Not that I mind them, but this is refreshing.
Haven’t felt this surprisingly refreshed since the “Rambo Tweety-bird” strip~
You know what? I would watch it
you saying that seems kinda funny because your pic it mort
I did not think this was funny at first. Then I saw the tube wearing an apron.
I stood corrected. lulz.
I thought that last panel was kinda disturbing…
Which is half the reason I follow EN. Well played, guys.
…yeah, I find myself missing the REAL Lothar after seeing this.
Did anyone else, when they saw Loth’s mom, imagine hearing the sound that all the reapers in Mass Effect 3 when they attack or land planetside?
Or chase you through solar systems
I just imagined the sound of a broken fridge.
How does a broken fridge sound anyway?
Really loud buzzing and maybe some knocking now and then, like our Samsung…
Which got repaired for free because, apparently, the model we have has a tendency to CATCH FIRE.
And just to clarify…
http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/news/2846669/Fire-alert-over-Samsung-fridge-freezer.html
Okay, never buying fridges from that company.
They make good televisions!
Sustenance climate control chambers, not so much.
They do make good TVs – though, I honestly cannot bring myself to buy one when the likes of LG are parading their 3D LED Backlit wonders in the background with the price tag equivalent of a tiny mini-skirt on a Swedish supermodel.
The mum bot thing scares me… but the woodchip bit was funny. Nice to see a fatherly hug though. :)
The tweety bird one I liked.
That was beautiful. I would watch this show. XD
Ew, this was strange even by your standards.
Though, I’ll be honest, Lothar’s Mom is a hot MILF. Those sexy cables man.
(Don’t worry, I’m a tech-priest)
BAHAHAHAHA! Wow, I laughed so hard at the mom. And those cookies look delicious!
So, Lothar…you never told us Jenova was your mum. Would definitely explain much…
LAWL!
Those guys seemed way to much of mammas boys (and I mean quite literally constantly talking about mum) for Loth to even compare! hahaha.
Pfffffffft. It’d explain his violent tendencies, look at all her other kids! XD
Wow, this was…just…wow. XD Can we see more of this, this is pretty funny. And, let me guess, the twins were a wolf and beaver? XD
I’m a little disappointed here. The ‘restructuring to a sitcom’ gag works better when the comic doesn’t already have strips written like a sitcom. The whole thing seemed like a particularly dry bit of humor targeting sitcoms, which just struck me as odd considering the usual humor of the comic. The strip was different enough from the usual comic to seem incongruous, but not so different as to be funny.
I can’t really say it was bad, but I don’t really see the point of it; and I would have preferred almost any of your other comics.
Cheer up cupcake, no need to be so serious about it.
webCOMIC, web…COMIC.
Wasn’t really a dig at sitcoms per-se. We just thought it would be funny if Lothar was in one of these cookie-cutter disney sitcoms. Also a floow-up to this strip: http://exterminatusnow.co.uk/2006-10-13/comic/non-storyline/randoms/better-luck-with-the-anime-spin-off/
Main reasonw e did it though? It made us laugh.
Oh, if the artists don’t mind answering a question, I do have one small one. Is there any particular reason why some characters are drawn fully clothed, and some are drawn naked? (Or in Eastwoods case, just with no pants)
Second.
Actually I asked this above too.
Mickey: no shirt
Donald: no pants
Goofy: fully clothed
If it’s good enough for Walt Disney, it’s good enough for me.
Meh, fair enough I suppose. Just try not to draw Humans like that please.
=D
Why not? I’m sure some of the male sections of the target audience wouldn’t mind some females drawn that way. ;)
Though, save that for a different comic strip, I guess.
Meanwhile the crack team at disney animation, that came up with Darkwing Duck, decided to ignore the focus groups and have a meeting…
http://cautionarytales.smackjeeves.com/comics/1435239/kool-aid/
I would watch it. XD
I miss the violence and R-rated jokes….
Is there any way that that style could be beter than the origional comic style……
No.
Please, bring back the violence.
It’s a 1-shot joke, cool your jets mate.
Well, panel 5 talks of maiming and murder. The violence never went away… turns out it was in our hearts all along.
And in our hearts and your pens and this site the violence will stay.
And hopefully spread no furth – oops.
How does one stick their dick in a cloning tube?
Oh. That is just so disturbing. Now I’m getting flashes of cybord Raven telling her younger brother Cory to stay away from cultists and her dad pulling daggers on japanese secret society members. Her mom? Running the business.
Thanks. A. Lot. I so needed that. Because now I am flashing back to the Cosby show Where Raven got her start! You don’t want to know…..
