#438 – Keeping Up With The Jonestowns
December 23rd, 2012 |
The plot thickens, as though guar gum and gelatin were listed among its ingredients.
Sorry for the missed update last week. I was sick. If you were following me on Twitter, you would know that already! May get Silv to add a feed to the site sidebar sometime in the new year, in case you’re network asocial.
Happy new b’ak’tun, everybody. Turns out, after the end of the thirteenth Mayan calendar, it wasn’t the end of the world, but in fact the fourteenth calendar. Who knew!*
* – Everybody who can count past 13
Oooooh Yeah!
Whoo boy. Let’s see where this goes then, shall we? I’m honestly tapped for a witty come back this time around.
This is the point where a demon jumps at them through a window and says “OH YEAH”
Let me guess… cool-ade is either brainwashing juice or super-addictive.
or made from people. It is green.
I find nothing wrong with that decision under the circumstances of that movie.
I think he is referring to this particularly “incident” http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jonestown#Deaths_in_Jonestown
I got that part. I was talking about where the story is going.
IT’S PEOPLE!!!
TH3Y DR4NK TH3 ….
Y34H, NO, NOT DO1NG TH1S ON3. MY B3ST GU3SS ON TH1S ON3 1S M4SS M1ND CONTROL.
I’d laugh, but that happens with way too many of my jokes…
Do I dare put in a reference linking cultist and magic to Magic Cool-ade… Dammit Psy, you wrecked my childhood with that crap.
Cool-aid, not really that scary. Now if it was Flavor Aid, that would be scary.
1 B3L13V3 YOU DON’T G3T TH3 R3F3R3NC3 TH3N. TH3R3 W4S 4N 3V3NT WH3R3 4 CULT L34D3R W4S 4BL3 TO G3T 4N 3NT1R3 C4MP/CULT OF P3OPL3 TO COMM1T SU1C1D3 BY D1STR1BUT1NG PO1SON3D COOL-41D. 4 M4SS MURD3R/SU1C1D3.
Check your facts before you cast aspersions, gC. Google the event; you’ll find Edd’s references are closer to the actual history than ours.
…OOPS? 3H H3H H3H H3H; GO1NG NOW.
Nobody questions my knowledge of useless facts. Nobody.
I think the only reason that anyone knows about Flavor Aid is because of Jim Jones.
This strip is one of those perfect examples of how you have to make something incorrect or skewed to make it more palatable to the everyman.
And since I am a fan of Cracked.

All praise Cracked, the most time consuming place on the Internet after Tv Tropes!

Hear, Hear.
I’m not wothry to be in the same forum. ROTFL
At least it’s not Tang.
Do I dare make use of the comment system? Eh, worth a shot.
Hey guys, long time reader here (since summer 2005), first time commenter (’bout friggin time). I have to say I’m pleasantly surprised you guys have kept on doing this for so long, and with so much gusto. The comic has become truly impressive over the years, in terms of art, story and of course, humor, and I tip my hat off to you for pulling it off so well. I’ll have to be honest though, and say that IMO, this doesn’t sound like one of your most interesting stories, but what the heck, it’s bound to pick up the pace soon, so I’ll keep reading anyway. Long live EN!
By the way, a (very) trivial question I’ve been wondering about since the Taika arc ended, if anyone would care to answer… Do the Daemon Hunters practice any kind of meditation or anything of the sort? If they do, does Rogue do it as well?
I gotta say, even with the jokes and comments the EN crew is making, this plot gives me the shivers. Hundreds of sets of tracks leading in? I just know the second they get in there, a few hundred enthralled people are gonna turn toward them and be seriously pissed off.
Oh wow, haven’t heard of Jonestown in awhile, the reference made me a bit wide eyed, as scary as that is, the world has no end to nut cases. There are such things as ‘good’ crazy and… very bad.
Terezi’s Log: Date unknown.
Everything is still fairly quiet in the comment section war zone. the fog has not faded since the last time I can remember. My typing quirk deserted me long ago after I came to realize the blind prophet’s blessings had deserted me. I can still hear the gurgling horrors in the mists that survived my last crusade spurred by hallucinations of an alternian courtscene proceure. I am unsure of how much sanity I still cling to. I sometimes believe myself to have wings and mystic powers, but these visions plague me less now. I lost use of my nose when the fog descended. I am truly blind these days. I dread the day that I simply descend to be another mist horror and write the logs in hopes someone may take a piece of me away from this den of madness. Curse the Imperious Condescension’s everliving bones and this dead rock of a planet she left behind…
B…b…but I like madness…
glad to see youf been cured, as for the silence in the comic section so far, think of it as a silence before the storm.
as for something to believe in, i think anime, manga, and novels will do, believe me those are better then blindly believing in a prophet whol end up abandoning you like the one that did that to you.
also in the end no one can be called truly sane just telling.
Or possibly because people would rather talk to their friends and families than a bunch of freaks on the ‘net. Or maybe I just annoy people.
1′M SUR3 1T’S NOT YOU. >;]
believe me you dont in most cases i end up having a blast with reading what you type as responses to others and looks like im crappy at conversing poeple as gallow has gone back to his old faith. so yeah thats a win for you for conversing him to that way.
Applauds.
Let me check my calendar…AGH! The end of the world’s made me completely forget to beg for Blasphemy this week!
Blasphemy!
BLASPHEMY!!!!
I ask myself why I continue this, as it’s severely ineffective. I guess it’s a habit now.
OK, “Jesus is a prick.” That enough blasphemy for you?
S4Y SOMTH1NG 4BOUT TH3 1CP. TH3N W3′LL H4V3 R34CH3D TH3 N3C3SS4RY QUOT4.
I’ll take your ‘Jesus is a prick’ and raise you one ‘Mary’s a whore’.
I’ll take ‘em and raise you one “God is a douchebag”.
And maybe I’ll draw a comic of Muhammad!
Dude. Not cool. You’ve taken this way too far, Virus.
Well aren’t you a hypocrite.
Fry.jpg Not sure if joking…
@Lothar; Oh, absolutely.
@Virus: Fry.jpg Me neither…
Yeah, because what we really need is death threats.
Well, we’ll get hits if nothing else.
See? East gets t.
I also “get it” but it still doesn’t make it any less hypocritical. I will admit I’m not sure if you’re joking either, but the way your reaction reads indicates you’re not.
OK, in all honesty, i’m joking. Despite certain famous incidents, Virus’ comment was tame compared to ours. I was attempting to derive humor from the situation by reacting to the tame comment as if drawing a comic was far worse than what we were saying. Hypocrisy is also a veritable mine of humor. It was SUPPOSED to read like I wasn’t joking- that would effectively ruin the joke. Are you sure you write comics?
No offense intended, and I’m absolutely joking. Looks like I managed to ruffle YOUR feathers, though. Me? I’m impossible to offend. So good day to you, sir.
TvTropes can explain better than I can.

Huh? Comments are filtered now?
*shrug* No idea, are they?
In response to your comment, yes I write comics with comedy. I’d say if people weren’t sure you were joking or not, that could be a failing on your comedy skills, plus the natural hard to judge tone of comments more than anything than me having a lack of a sense of humour. I dunno, just putting that out there.
My bad. I thought the nature of the conversation alone would be sufficient to indicate that it was a joke; I was not aware we were being serious.
Comments have -always- been filtered. Multiple links tend to set off the spam filter, is all. Thankfully, there are systems in place to make it not bug me about most of the spam but allow me to catch that last one.
Ah. I knew somebody was missing from this party.
Cool-ade is people!
Oh, no.
Oh, no!
OH NO!
*crash*
OH YEAH!
Dundunduuuuuun! Yeah. That’s not ominous at all.
And this shall be remembered as the first of several strips where I really ticked off Lothar in the comment section.
