#456 – Little Shop Of Horrors
July 10th, 2013 |
So, it looks like I’m working weekends for the foreseeable, with my days off landing at varying points mid-week. Here is a Wednesday-ish update, and next week will probably be the same. Hate to have such a sloppy schedule, but there it is. Look, just get an RSS reader. Feedly works well, now that Google Reader has gone under.
“Rare and Arcane Books”….
…
SOUNDS LIKE THE RIGHT PLACE!
Rogue -really- should take Virus’s advice. He’s even starting to channel Eastwood’s expressions.
Are these two views really that mutually exclusive?
I could totally believe that happened in Taika from what I’ve seen.
so is Taika the mobian equivalent of Japan or does it include China as well? I’m just wondering because zhejiang sounds more China and Japan
and now that I’ve reread this strip I think zhejiang probably doesn’t even exist in the EN ‘verse, considering it was one of East’s propaganda papers
Taika includes Japan and China, and I’m willing to bet it would also include a few Southeast Asian countries – basically anything Far East. Probably India as well? That I can’t say for sure. One of the crew will probably clarify that, but personally whenever Taika comes up I think “most of Asia, only with a heavy Japanese influence”.
I’m guessing Japan, China, N Korea, S. Korea, Manchuria(?), and a few other places
More-or-less. It’s Silv’s area of expertise, so maybe any specifics will be furnished by him.
I see… you know I’ve been meaning to ask, I like reading this comic out loud (don’t ask, I just do) I’ve been wondering what kind of voices each character has, weird question I know, but hey, I’m a weird person
Just substitute random voices.
For a fairly normal reading:
Rogue=Dib, Virus=Krillin, Eastwood= Kirk, and Lothar=Terminator.
heh, I actually imagined east with a cockney accent and Vi sounding like the geico lizard, I didn’t really imagine loth with any accent of any kind
Yeah… I was going out on a limb there. But can we agree that Morth sounds like the guy from Black Adder?
sure, even though I’ve never seen Black Adder, it sounds cool
you can say what you want but at least virus knows where to look when it comes to daemon knowledge and stuff and how to take care of a pet that pretty much fcks up alot of stuff.
speaking of blashepmy we havent seen the little bugger for some time, any reason for that?
well blashepmy and the robot chicken pet showed up in the last Morth story some pages ago.
It just gets tricky to write new gags for Blasphemy. We have one in the pipe though, to run after this story’s over.
Well, the house IS unattended right now, and Blasphemy could be getting bored by now…
Considering their mission everything hunter is saying makes this store sound more and more like the right place.
A legendary shottle bop.
wat?
Maybe bottle shop? XD
now that’s better, comrade
No, comrade. That way it’s worse. And wrong, to boot.
Trust me – that _is_ shottle bop. I know when I see one.
Or “борговля тутылками”, if Rodinian would be more to your liking, comrade. Always found that collocation quite humorous.
I honestly have no idea what you just said, sorry ?:(
Are you russian? I know what does it mean – торговля бутылками, but wtf are you using that for?
I can do a good russian accent, but I cannot read or speak it, I feel like a newb T_T
Aghahaha! Fuck Russians! Ukraine will be control the WORLD!
…
Woopsie ^^” Haha, joke of course))))
riiight, well I still have the urge to keep a tranq on me at all times regardless
Well, I’ve always conused that English haven’t my first language. Because I cannot read all books on english, I can’t inderstand all games with good english voices, watch amerian (or english) cartoons, etc. I think that if EN would not have Russian translation, I would never have started reading it. So you MUST be happy, spike. You just don’t know how it to be a slav.
*confused , sorry.
trust me, american cartoons suck these days, most american TV shows do, I can’t wait to start studying abroad once I’m out of high school, though I can understand wanting to read and listen to shows in another language
(Phah, I’m a flooder now XD)
I know, spike. USSR made perfect and kind cartoons with good characters, but now… Nothing to watch. Russian translators are noble suckers with equal goblin voices. That why I really HATE russian translate of american cartoons. And that one of the many reasons that I read comics XD
You want to learn Russian? Good luck.
Sorry for my bad English. I don’t like to use Google Translate, really =(
actually, I’m content with my accent impersonation, I don’t plan on visiting russia or the ukraine, I actually planned on going to Japan, so I’m learning japanese with the rosetta stone (or I would be if my damn laptop hadn’t crapped out on me)
Did someone sayd “Japan”? heheh. Well, Japanese like Russian is hard as well.
For some reason, I’m almost expecting to see the Mobian equivalent of the Ferengi Rules of Acquisition in that store. Either that or the complete works of the Mobian version of Proust.
I was going to comment with something else, but MAGIC BOOKEND AVATAR!
Yeah…my current avatar seems WAY too appropriate for this one.
Hmm…actually, now that I think about it, I wonder if we’ll see a certain series of books by the Mobian version of GRRM in there…
NO ONE EXPECTS A MOBIAN ACQUISITION!
phase 1: establish creepy book store
phase 2: ????
phase 3: profit!!
For once, Syrus looks like the smart one.
M4NY BR41N C3LLS D13D TO BR1NG US TH1S ST4T3M3NT.
Don’t worry, won’t happen again I’m sure
Oh please let this Atherton guy be a parody of Bernard Black.
If there’s a “Good Omens” reference huddled within this book shop I am going to be SO pleased! :D
I thought that it was a Soul Music reference, who knows when they leave they might be on the other side of the street,
I wish I was older, or that the people around me talked about much more interesting things, ’cause then I could probably get all these references that you guys are talking about
This arc has a fair few Pratchett references mixed in (amongst others), so whilst the little shop that wasn’t there yesterday is in my mind best personified by the one from Soul Music, it’s a more generic nod. If it’s even one of those shops. The owner might just be odd,
The ‘Established-’ joke is from Night Watch iirc.
I thought it was The Light Fantastic.
It may have been reused. It was used in Night Watch.
This whole sequence looks like something by Terry Pratchett, specifically a scene in “Soul Music”.
“It just vanished”
“No, it’s on the other side of the street.”
Yeah, Rogue should not take Easts paper seriously. Also, Vi may be prone to moronics but at least he’s savvy enough to know where to look.
