#462 – Two Man Raid

The aforementioned Halloween. I would trust you to remember it better if it hadn’t taken a month to reach the callback.
The aforementioned Halloween. I would trust you to remember it better if it hadn’t taken a month to reach the callback.
And this is why they bring Lothar with them. Ten bucks says Virus will be forced to translate it for them, and accidentally gets them to dial the wrong god.
And would dialing the wrong god be suck a problem? As after this grand fuck up they are due for a little luck.
But Bloody Hell is right.
BTW does Virus even know Taikan? Wouldn’t that be more up Rogue’s alley as he IS Taikan?
SUCH darn’t it not suck.
I think it’s more likely that the book ISN’T written in Taikan at all, but possibly in a demonic or quasi-demonic script. That’s more Virus’s specialty than Rogue. I mean, these cultists don’t seem to be the brightest bunch. It’s more likely to me that they saw strange runes, and immediately assumed it was Taikan rather than checking to see if it actually was.
True.. Oh well and since Virus CAN read demon to a degree……….

With the efficiency of Google translate. Hitting within 90% of correctness is simply not enough. Kind of like relying on spellcheck on paper; you occasionally come across someone who writes that they love to torture kids, only for them to say that they meant ‘tutor’. But Syrus simply cannot be extremely competent without breaking character.
hmmmm, maybe not.
the book written by a Taikan schoalr who was not in league with the dark powers so much as writing about them for everyone to know (both enemies and allies). It’d make sense then if he wrote it in a language not spoken by only one of those sides, and since Taikan was his native language…
now, a few millenia of pure crazy running through the pages may have warped the letters into demonic or something similar, but I’d assume the base remains Taikan
How many people can claim to have prank called a god?
“Do you have Prince Albert in a can?”
“No, I ate him yesterday.”
“Uh… I’m from the royal cannery. Would you like some more?”
Never call up and ask the Soulthirster for Amanda Hugnkiss… just… don’t!
The book isn’t written in Taikan, though. That was just cited as proof that the guy whose eyes were bleeding could translate to Mobian. These guys aren’t exactly the sharpest cheeses in the drawer, you know…
“For the last time, this is the Patterner! Not the Taikan take-away.”
Calling all bets! Who will Virus dial? Will he go insane?
Odds on demand.
(Favor is heavily biased for dialing the Soulthirster or Tyrus)
Five bucks says he’ll call Nigel.
I got ten bucks which says he accidentally dials Blasphemy. Five that he goes so insane he lops right back around to sane, and another fiver which says he doesn’t go insane because it turns out he was nuts to begin with.
My money’s on Kevin
damn! Not even a cheerleader squad!
That’s how they show respect to a god? Kids these days.
If they had daemonic cheerleaders, they could double as torture victims by making them do cheers based on the god’s name.
“Gimme an S, Gimme an H, Gimme a G, Gimme a J, Gimme a K, Gimme a G, Gimme a G, Gimme an R, Gimme a T, Gimme an M, Gimme an N, Gimme a G, Gimme a W, Gimme a T!
What does that spell?”
And then their tongues fall out.
got to love moments where because of the doors placement you dont see the army part of a group thats in the sides next to the door.
Meanwhile, the dude on the left side of the poker table goes and peeks at his surprised opponents hand
With a water based god, better hope nobody gets a busted flush or plays spit in the ocean.
eh, they can take them.
or die in an amusing manner for us, at the very least.
I’m good either way
I have the feeling that Virus and Rogue are pretty much the only ones who barely get along.
I think they can still take ‘em.
Yeah, I mean….there’s not THAT many of them. The incident at Ossiningo (or however it’s spelled) was WAY worse than this. That was a full fledged void portal. This is a few cultists with spears and maybe an automatic weapon between them.
I think Lux is right. With their training they should be able to take them. If the spears and tridents could be used as something other than slow moving projectile weapons and twirly-gigs it might pose a threat. then again magic makes anything possible… like a distraction that turns Virus into a tomato. Thus, leaving Rogue to fend for himself or question his sanity.
From my eye, I see two H/K MP5K SMGs, a couple harpoon guns, some tridents, and that’s it.
Pretty good odds for our plucky heroes.
Exactly. I mean, if the one with the larger group won every time, then against something like the Tyranids, we’d all be proper fucked.
*has recently gotten into Warhammer 40k lore*
Where the fuck, where those assholes?!
Behind their limited view from the entrance, i.e. when you walk in a room you can’t see behind the door you opened to get there. It’s all a matter of perspective.
Okay, this might not sound like I want it to, because I might be implying that I don’t usually think the strip is funny (which, needless to say, is light years away from the truth), but oh my gods, that was probably one of the biggest surprise laugh attacks I’ve had with an EN strip. Very well done, sirs. Can’t wait to see the outcome of this little setback.
“I think we can take them.”
I recall seeing that on a list of famous last words. A pity Virus doesn’t seem to have read it.
That’s right up there with “Hey watch this!”
“What could possibly go wrong?” is most likely at the top
Along with “Hold my beer!”
ehhhh, can’t say I’ve heard that one used a whole lot in a situation like this, but just so we don’t have a long list of replies, I’m going to do the obvious, and link a trope
http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/TemptingFate
Stepping in it is one thing, but running up to it and kicking it upwards while still fresh would be a better way to describe the situation our heroes are facing.
Ah, so the fourth necklace has been revealed. I was wondering what it was.
Heh, yeah, I noticed one day that they’d all developed a neck accoutrement of some form. Not intentionally, it just slowly happened. But Virus’s pendant has shown up once or twice before. I believe it pre-dates Harry’s tie.
…accoutrement? I guess it’s cromulent enough.
When did Virus’s pendant show itself? I guess I gotta dig through the archives to find it.
Huh, bit older than I thought: first appeared in 2008.
I’ve got a quick question about that story arc, Virus. My understanding is a little fuzzy, but spells and magic work in this universe by accepting power from the Dark Gods, right? Like Silas Morth was able to do the things he did with the power of the patterner, right?
So, what Dark God covers necromancy?
No, magic is a resource all its own. It’s about channelling power from the same dimension that gives the gods their power and home, but is not linked to the gods directly. Morth is a sorcerer and he is a Patterner devotee, not because. We haven’t met any ‘good’ mages in the comic, but they exist.
Necromancy interrupts and subverts Mort’s processes. It’s in opposition to a specific Just God, but isn’t aligned to any particular Dark God.
I reread some of the older comics, he may of had it on a chain back on page 6 although we don’t see it, he says he was using it as a paper weight.
I may have missed something here, but what is Rogue’s neck accessory? is it that sash or do I need to get my eyes checked?
It’s that little blue jewel hanging around his neck. Likewise, Lothar has dog tags and Eastwood has his tie. Virus always wore his neck accessory under his shirt, so I’ve never seen it until now, though apparently Virus says it’s appeared before.
he flashed the inquisition badge a few times before (like with the wanna-be necromancers) so I’m guessing that was his neck-thingy and we didn’t see the chain part
*squints* oh now I see it, boy I really do need to get my eyes checked XD, thank you for pointing that out, I never would’ve seen that, though I did get East’s tie and Loth’s dog tags
If they had montaged harder they wouldn’t be in this problem.
Ill give them that: These cultists sure know how to keep quite.
Their expressions in the last panel say it all. “Gods, not this again. And we can’t even blame Lothar.”

Remember #049?
“This is your fault. We’re gonna die now, and it’s YOUR fault.”
Rogue seems to have a knack for misjudging situations…just saying.
No kidding. If his cast profile is any judge, this isn’t the first time he’s been in over his head this badly.
OTOH, this isn’t the *first* time he’s been in over his head this badly…and he’s still around. Kinda why Shaeffer barely tolerates (or at the very least can’t get rid of) them…they’re idiot savants for these kinds of situations, though usually with emphasis on the ‘idiot’…
I tried something like that once… With a tank.
were you the one with the tank or were they?
… Yes?
AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Sorry. As much as I love them, that’s just hilarious and so like their standing pattern. It’s what I call the theory of inconvinience. So awesome.
